hey all this is my first post here,
basically my problem is getting my rustler vxl around the one and only track remotely near me. i need some help with corning, wheel alignment, fishtailing, and flying distance.
So you know what i'm racing around and what i need help with here's a pic of the new track that just opened here in Huntsville:
sorry the pic is hiding the start finish gap it's hidden but yes it's there and it nice and big, but not suicide if you short it but i like to just clear it(way more fun), if you're wondering where the pits are they run along beside it(hidden from view). the track is about a 1/4mile. a dozen sprinklers keep the dust down, the track is packed rock solid like concrete.
OK.
1. so my wheel are aligned dead straight front and back, being a 2WD that does well over 100km/h. I can't help but think that i should be adjusting the fronts and back to either toe in or out to help with the fish tailing i get and corning around in the dirt.
Presently i can be already going 1/3 trottle and by time i've got up to even only half throttle i've fish tailed out of control. .. to even get up to half throttle i have to take it so easy that on the straights i'm going no faster then the rental slash's running 8.6v NiMH's .. why am i using a 11.1v lipo then?
i've tried several tires, the stock traxxas, some(freebie so i don't know the brand) soft compound and super soft foam insert tires(same tread as the stock rears) , and now i've bought some bow-ties which will give me the best possible traction.. but only slighty more than the other's i've used... which brings me back to toe'ing the wheels in or out a bit maybe? HELP!
2. Spring preload, presently i've got 7/8" preload on my rear shocks and 1/2" on the front. the reason was to stop my car from belly flopping against the ground when i jump 20-30 ft through the air, and to try and keep the front wheel in contact with the ground around corners.
But i can't help but think maybe this is part of my fish tail and corning problems.. am i making an error here? HELP AGAIN!
3. Flight distance, with me not being able to get up to speed on the front before huge gap i can't reliably clear it, on the back stretch(if you check the pic and see) i can easily clear the tabletop on the end of the back stretch when i get up to 1/2 speed but that's sometimes hard to do even when i'm out there by myself.. if i can't fix my fish tailing how can i increse my flight distance. the car is stock except rear aluminum springs and rear carriers, i don't know if it's going to matter but i ordered a JConcepts Illuzion Hi-Speed body w/ wing(mostly because my stock body has drawings from my 3yr old all over it)
4. Anyone have any general tips for me or setting up my rustler after reading this or looking at the track over at muskoka madtrax????
... if you're worried about suggesting something that wont be good on other tracks it's ok. that's the only track i'll be racing on. especially since it's literally right around the corner from me at the local snowtubing park, with my busy schedule it's perfect.
thankyou in advance, cheers eh! Phil.
